• Get a food thermometer. To make sure your toddler’s food is warm enough to enjoy yet not hot enough to be a danger, grab a food thermometer and make sure the food is within range. Hot food is safe to eat at around 90 degrees and should not exceed 120 degrees.
• Take a look at your table. Make sure hot foods are not placed on a tablecloth, where they could easily spill, move, or fall off the table. Also, keep hot foods more toward the center of the table, rather than the edge, where they could be knocked off.
• Don’t disturb your child while eating. Make sure you do not disturb, startle, or tickle your child while they are eating hot foods. Allow them space to concentrate on eating in a calm environment.
