All About Making a Birth Announcement and Pregnancy Announcement on Social

Congratulations, you’re pregnant! Now that you’ve gotten that big fat positive test, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to spread the big news. When do you post it? How do you post it? Do you even post about it at all? We’re here to help you narrow down your options without overthinking it or going down an insane social media rabbit hole. Read on for more about how to make a birth and pregnancy announcement on social media!

How to Make a Pregnancy Announcement on Social

Timing Is Everything

First of all, you want to make sure you and your partner are on the same page as far as when to tell people your good news. Most doctors will tell you that the chances for miscarriage drop drastically after about 10-12 weeks, deeming it “safer” to wait until then to tell everyone, just in case the worst were to happen. However, many people find it difficult to hold in the good news - and that’s okay, too! Whether you’re okay with covering up and “faking” why you’re feeling sick or passing up a glass of wine is totally up to you. Second, before you go posting away on social media, make sure that you have told all the important, close people in your life first. The whole point of posting announcements on social media is to tell everyone at once, however, close family and friends might appreciate a personal announcement instead. Finally, make sure your time your announcement right so that it isn’t “stealing the spotlight” from anything. Try to avoid telling people on someone else’s big day, such as a wedding or birthday. It can be tempting, especially since everyone you want to tell is in the same place. However, wait a few days so that you can have your own big moment to shine.

Be Careful with Pronouns and Name Usage

The next thing you want to make sure you’re on the same page with your partner as is regarding using pronouns or announcing the name of your baby. If you’ve decided not to announce these things, be careful with using “she” or “he” and the future name while on social media or in conversation. This can be especially true if you’ve been told you’re having a girl - you never know what might happen until delivery day!

Have Fun With It!

Now that you’re on the same page with your partner about everything, it’s time to craft your announcement. The special thing about social media is that we can look back on these moments, so it can feel like a lot of pressure to make the announcement special and interesting. Don’t worry about trying to top others - just make it something unique to you and your partner, and your followers will love it!

Use Props

Aside from using the obvious - your baby’s ultrasound - a super fun and cute idea is to involve different props in your social media message. This can include anything from letter boards to tiny shoes, or donuts and donut holes to different sized paper clips. Think about different items that have to do with you and your partner’s profession, your favorite food or your favorite activities and incorporate those. You can even incorporate your pets!

Celebrate Their Birth Month

A great prop to use would be something to celebrate the month your baby is due. The Innobaby Teethin’ Smart Birthstone Ring Teether is a cute prop you can use to announce your pregnancy, then use it for your baby to pose with throughout his or her first year to show the growth. The birth months include: January (Garnet) February (Amethyst) March (Aquamarine) April (Diamond) May (Emerald) June (Alexandrite) July (Ruby) August (Peridot) September (Sapphire) October (Tourmaline) November (Citrine) December (Blue Topaz)

How to Make a Birth Announcement on Social

Once you’ve made your pregnancy announcement, it’s your time to let your family and friends congratulate you - so enjoy it! Focusing on these next 9 months is important getting ready for baby, but then once they’re here, the next social media challenge is deciding how you may or may not want to announce your little one’s arrival into the world. How do you capture such a life-changing event into just a little square? While you’ve got some time to think about it before your delivery, we’ve got some tips for you!

Wait Until You’re Ready

Obviously, there’s a lot going on once you have your baby. People might be on the edge of their seats waiting for you to announce the birth of your baby, especially if you or your partner has posted that you’re in labor. However, it is important for you to take time for yourself, your partner and your new baby. Don’t feel the need to please your followers if you’re not feeling it yet. Wait to announce until you are ready! Everyone is totally different. You might not feel ready for a few days, weeks or even months. Some people can’t wait to share the news straight from the hospital - and that’s okay, too! Whatever timing works for you is totally fine, since there’s no rule book. The only rule is to make sure you and your partner are BOTH ready to make that pregnancy announcement!

Include All The Deets

Everyone wants to see not only what your baby looks like, but all their details as well. What is his or her full name? How much did he or she weigh in at? What was the length? Is there a unique or funny story to go along with any of these details? If you’re willing to share, tell your followers!

Be Careful Not to Overshare

Once your baby is born, it can be tempting to want to constantly share photos and updates of your baby. However, it is important not to overshare TOO much. As much as people love seeing a new baby, they might not want hourly updates. In addition, your child obviously cannot control what you are posting. There is a chance that later in life they might not appreciate having every funny dirty diaper story or temper tantrum posted for the world to see. Be mindful about how much you are sharing, and decide together with your partner what might work for the both of you.

Use a Prop for Ongoing Monthly Updates

A popular trend is to post monthly updates about your little one. This alleviates having everyone constantly ask how the baby is, plus it makes for cute first-year photos. Using the same prop for ongoing monthly updates, such as the Innobaby Teethin’ Smart Birthstone Ring Teether, will show how the baby grows and blossoms in relation to it. You can also include cute tidbits, such as what new developments have happened since the last month, what new foods he or she likes, or what toys or cartoons he or she is into.
